Web access using telephone numbers

IT WOULD certainly be quite comfortable if one can use an organisation's telephone number to access its web page instead of using the page's Uniform Resource Locator (URL). This week Netspeak discusses on the efforts that are underway to develop the ENUM protocol that has been designed to achieve this objective.

To contact a person or an ogranisation, currently we have multiple alternatives: we can call him over the land phone or mobile phone, send a fax, e-mail, postal mail or an instant message (IM), visit his web site and find out more information. The explosion of numerous channel alternatives will make the communication process easy only if we are able to remember the various addressing entities such as telephone/fax numbers, e-mail/IM addresses and web URL.
