Rich Site Summary format: new frontiers
THE RSS-BASED newsfeed format, originally created to distribute the latest content details on news websites, is treading new frontiers. This week NetSpeak explores some of the new tasks in which this simple but powerful technology is being deployed.
The XML-based news syndication format, RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication), enables news web site authors to push the summary information of the latest content on their sites to their clients' desktops automatically. As onee can read tens of hundreds of newsfeeds in less than an hour, the productivity gain possible with this technology is enormous.
