Peer-to-Peer enabled applications

THIS WEEK we will run through a few useful applications created using the Peer-to-Peer technology.
We have already dealt with the concept of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology that enables a machine on the Net to connect directly with another machine for sharing/downloading resources. This technology makes machines on a network act both as clients and servers. Generally it is used to share files between users connected to the Net directly. Such popular networks as KaZaA (http://www.kaza.com), Gnutella (http://www.gnutella.com) are typical examples of P2P file sharing networks. Apart from sharing files, the P2P technology is being deployed in other areas as well. Here, we will have a look at a few other interesting applications created using the P2P technology.
